Meknès ist eine Stadt im nördlichen Marokko mit knapp 600.000 Einwohnern. Sie liegt in der Region Fès-Meknès am Fuße des Mittleren Atlasgebirges. Ihr Name leitet sich vom Berberstamm der Miknasa ab, der den Ort ursprünglich besiedelte. Meknès is a city in northern Morocco with a population of almost 600,000. It is located in the Fès-Meknès region at the foot of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Its name is derived from the Berber tribe of the Miknasa, who originally settled the town. The entire old town of Meknès and the Ville impériale Mulai Ismails were inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1996.
