The Leckermoos nature reserve lies in a high valley at approx. 860 m above sea level. The Leckermoor belongs to the type of nutrient-poor rain moor and as one of the largest and most beautiful raised bogs in Lower Austria is of supra-regional importance. In the course of natural history surveys, a number of remarkable and sometimes highly endangered animal and plant species have been identified. These include the butterfly species Hochmoor-Perlmuttfalter, for which there are only four current records in Lower Austria, and the Randring-Perlmuttfalter, an ice age relic. From the group of dragonflies there are evidence of 7 species of the Red List of endangered species in Lower Austria, among them the highly endangered species Speer-Azurjungfrau and Hochmoor-Mosaikjungfer. In addition to peat mosses, all the characteristic plant species of raised bogs are also present. The Leckermoor was declared a nature reserve in 1984 in accordance with the protection worthiness of the area.
